Sonat Vox & Sophia Chamber Choir - Sacred a cappella music from several centuries
Directed by: Justus Merkel (Sonat Vox) & Oleksii Shamrytskyi (Sophia Chamber Choir)
It is with great pleasure that we, Sonat Vox, invite you to two special concert evenings in Franconia in September 2025: on Saturday, September 13, in Bamberg (Obere Pfarre, 19:00) and on Sunday, September 14, in Erlangen (Neustädter Kirche, 18:00).
Together with the Sophia Chamber Choir - a young, top-class ensemble from Kiev under the direction of Oleksii Shamrytskyi, whom we got to know on our concert tours and with whom we now have a close musical friendship - we will present a varied program of sacred a cappella music from several centuries.
What drives us with this project is the idea of bringing top ensembles that we meet on our concert tours to our home country. After celebrating a brilliant start to this concert series last year with the renowned men's choir Chorus Viennensis from Vienna, we are now delighted to welcome the Sophia Chamber Choir, an equally expressive and sensitive ensemble.
The Sophia Chamber Choir was founded shortly after the outbreak of war in Ukraine and consists of professional singers who now live mainly in German-speaking countries. Under the direction of Oleksii Shamrytskyi, the ensemble has quickly made a name for itself with its finely tuned sound and clever choice of repertoire. The encounter with the ensemble was a great musical enrichment for us from the very beginning - so we are all the more pleased to be able to realize a joint project in Franconia.
Both ensembles will perform their own mixed program: Sonat Vox and the Sophia Chamber Choir with a selection from their respective current repertoire. In addition, we will perform works together - multi-choral, from different eras and with exciting instrumentation.
